Renewing Your Mind

We have just finished celebrating Thanksgiving — a time for gathering together as a family, making your favorite dishes to accompany that delicious turkey, and for giving God thanks for things big and small.

Then, in comes the Christmas rush! Before people even finish digesting their turkey dinner, they rush to stores and wait in long lines for their special Black Friday deals.

This got me thinking.... The world's culture wants to dictate how you live, what you wear and even how you think. The world is not interested in your opinions, values or beliefs. Its drive is money, power and control. But, the Bible clearly warns us about this!

And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].”
Romans 12:2 AMP

As we are in Christ, we have a responsibility to allow the Word of God to change our way of thinking. We are to be maturing and growing in the things of God. We should become more aware of Satan's strategies and the underlying effect they have on us. I'm not saying gift giving and all we celebrate are wrong, but that we must be watchful about where the influence is coming from.

Let us make sure, as we are coming to the end of another year, that we each can reflect back and see change, growth and maturity as we live our lives for Christ; always remembering that we are still Women Under His Construction!
Welcome to Women Under Construction
a place where women can relate

I have found that it doesn’t matter how long you have been walking with the Lord, we all come to the realization that there is still much work God has to do within each of us.

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 1:6 NKJV

About the Author

I got saved at the age of 21. I was a young mother of two and a stay-at-home mom. My husband and I found ourselves in a place of discontent. Although we were faithfully attending the church of our traditional upbringing, there was still this void inside...Read more.
A Time of Reflection

As we wind down from all the busyness of Christmas shopping, Christmas plays and social gatherings, we can sit back and take a deep breath.

Christmas is a time for reflection, a time to remember Jesus is the reason for the season. Each year we hear this phrase, but how often do we think of the meaning behind it? God sent Jesus for us. Do you know that we are always on God's mind?

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV

Jesus is God's gift to you and me... a gift that can change everything if we will only believe.

As we come to the close of another year and remember the mountain highs and valley lows, we can see God's love and faithfulness in our lives. He has been there to see us through, make it work out for our good, make us stronger in our faith, and build our trust in Him.

Hope: To look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence.
Future: Something that will exist or happen in time to come.

Don't give up your hope in God. He has a great future planned for you!

Blessings to you in 2019!
New Beginnings

Isn’t it something how when we hear the word ”new” we get excited? Thoughts of a new house, new car, new clothes, new shoes, and maybe even a new hairdo can excite us. But then, there are those new things that can be a bit more challenging; like a new job, new position, new neighborhood, new school, and even new friends.

“For if a man is in Christ he becomes a new person altogether–the past is finished and gone, everything has become fresh and new."
2 Corinthians 5:17 PHILLIPS

It’s January and you may have thought, “Oh good, that last year was a tough one. I’m just glad I made it through,” or “I’m just ready to move on to what is ahead.”

Well, this verse brings two things to mind.
     (1) Not only does God promise that we become a ‘new’ person,
     (2) but that old things are passed away!

What does this mean? We begin a new journey where things begin to change inside of us — a new heart and a new nature! Old thoughts, old principles and old practices are now replaced with new. You’re no longer going back to the old way of doing things. In fact, those old desires are being replaced with new ones!

The challenge: Your life is now surrendered to God and you must begin to trust him This is not always easy. As God begins to do new things in your life; taking you down a new path, teaching and molding you, it can all be a bit challenging. Sometimes, you might even question if it is worth it. But, just remember the saying, “God will never lead you where the hand of God cannot keep you!”

So, my thought for this new year is this:
Enjoy the journey. God knows exactly what He is doing, where He is taking you and what it will take to get you there! Trust Him.
Reflecting on Love

Love and Valentine’s Day are usually the main focus in February. I’d like to give you some different thoughts on love to consider.

When we think of love, many of us think of words like fondness, passion, devotion, delight, appreciation, respect, loyalty, and commitment. Most of us desire all these things in relationship.

"The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you."
Jeremiah 31:3 ESV

In the above verse, we read that the Lord’s love is everlasting and faithful. Isn’t that what we want? We want someone who will love us forever and be faithful to the end.

So now, let’s consider another verse.

"Jesus answered him, 'Love the Lord your God with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, and with every thought that is within you.’"
Matthew 22:37 TPT

Isn’t this what Jesus asks us to do?
Or, do we do the very thing to Him that we don’t want done to us?

"You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way.
And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that 'he’s a fiercely jealous lover.' And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that 'God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.'

So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him flee. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet."
James 4:4-10 MSG

You see, we could put a lot of focus on what we want for ourselves, but what about what Jesus wants from us? He already showed us a love that we will never find anywhere else by dying on the cross for our sins!

"A time to love, and a time to hate."
Ecclesiastes 3:8 NKJV

It’s time to turn all our love and affection towards God. Pursue those things that will cause us to do His will wholeheartedly. Recognize the things of this world will only divide our loyalty towards God, but true love, faithfulness and commitment are to be given first and foremost to God.

God’s love is the greatest you will ever encounter!
Marching Forward

We are already entering the third month of a new year! Time is moving quickly, which makes me think about keeping pace. There are still nine more months to go in this year and much work to do for the Lord. We don't want to lose momentum, right?

The word march is defined as “to walk with regular and measured tread, as soldiers on parade; to advance in step in an organized body.” This makes me think about being a part of an army and how I must keep rank with my unit. Today, it is important to see that we are not lone rangers but part of a much bigger unit — The Army of the Lord! God gives orders and we must execute them. Unity, like-mindedness, submission, obedience, and commitment are vitally important. These can be the deciding factor between winning and losing the battle.

“But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city! So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.”
Joshua 6:15–16, 20 NKJV

Only after following their marching orders were they able to see the victory that was waiting for them. But had someone stopped marching, got out of line or refused to comply fully with the orders given, the whole unit (God’s people) would not have experienced their victory.

We too are part of a body of believers, a church family, in which every individual is important. This is why we must all do our part, stay united, be watchful, work together, be faithful, standing guard, and doing whatever is necessary to complete our marching orders.

There is still much work to do and many battles to win. Remain focused, follow instructions, stay fully armed.

“And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
1 Chronicles 14:15 NKJV

We are not alone. God has already gone before us and given us the victory! March! March! March!
